Sweden, which currently holds the European Union presidency, said that progress was being made on the contentious issue of European hedge fund regulation and that they are optimistic a deal might be reached in the coming months.

In an interview, Swedish Financial Markets Minister Mats Odell said: "My view is that we are making progress and there is scope for reaching an agreement during the Swedish E.U. presidency, though I can't be sure."
